Employment Spotlight -I got the job I Wanted

Douglas Mitchell, is currently employed by Interior fitting limited as a Final Drafter

Doug was in his second-year student studying Architecture Technology at Toi Ohomai I Te Pukenga.

As studies came to an end, I was on the hunt for a job, so I made an appointment with a Careers and Employability Facilitator (Windermere Campus) to get help with my CV and Cover Letter.

During the appointment, Doug found out about the Firm – Interior Fitting Ltd job listing advertised on the Careers and Employability Website.

The facilitator helped me to tailor my CV and Cover letter for the role. I submitted my application and shortly after was invited for an interview.

I got the job I wanted!  I am so thankful to the team for helping me structure my CV and Cover letter. The support they offer is really amazing and professional.
I have had a Note-taker throughout the second semester, which has made a difference in my understanding of an assignment and formatting a report. I feel prepared and ready to step into the field I have been studying for.

I have struggled a lot with reading and writing and I have the learning support team and tutors to thank for that. If you ever think you can’t do it, you have all the support and resources. The Tutors are incredible and all they want is to get over that finish line.

one last thing I want to add is a quote that helped me get back on the right track.  “You may encounter many defeats but you must not be defeated. In fact, it may be necessary to encounter the defeats, so you can know who you are, what you can rise from, how you can still come out of it” by Maya Angelou.

I wish every student the very best for their future.
Thank you Toi-Ohomai for making this dream happen.

Kia Takatū ki te Mahi – Get Job Ready

Congratulations to all our Māori and Pasifika Trade Training (MPTT) ākonga who gained the 2022 Kia Takatū ki te Mahi – Get Job Ready Award!

The Job Ready Award equips ākonga with the skills and knowledge to apply for mahi with confidence. It includes 3 workshops: Start your Journey (self-awareness), interview skills and CV creation. Students then show evidence of work experience or volunteering to achieve the award.

Well done to the ākonga that participated, they all displayed so many strengths – team working, resilience, quiet determination and positive attitudes. Kei runga noa atu koutou!

Spring into Work Hiring and Recruitment Day

The Careers and Employability team in October 2022 partnered with the Ministry of Social Development (MSD) and Connected to hold the Spring into Work Hiring and Recruitment Day at Toi Ohomai – Windermere Campus.

Over 200 people attended the event, with high levels of energy and engagement. Interviews were held on the day with some employers hiring participants on the spot.

The Virtual Reality (VR Skills) was a hit amongst ākonga providing opportunities to explore the many industries available from Horticulture, Hospitality, Traffic Management to Building and Construction. The event brought together local businesses, Employers, Community members and Schools to connect and gain opportunities in education, training and employment.
