Digital & Creative Tech Tutor – Native Tech, Rotorua

Do you have a passion for working with young people (aged 15 to 24), not in employment, education or training (NEET), or at risk of long-term unemployment?  Would you like to support our rangatahi to actively engage in learning and to attain and sustain ongoing training, education and employment using digital and creative tech (including video games/esports) as a way of engaging and reigniting their love of learning?  Do you like to work in a fun, unique and inspiring environment?  

Native Tech (a programme developed by Digital Natives Academy) is looking for a kaupapa driven, passionate and motivated Lead Tutor to be part of our innovative programme. Native Tech is an initiative developed by Digital Natives Academy, a non-profit, which was established in 2014 to encourage young people wanting to enter the digital tech industry the power to create, transform, shape and develop their own digital tools. 

Native Tech’s vision is to create the next generation of digital leaders. Our foundation is based on a Te Ao Māori worldview and we provide Kaupapa Māori and Matauranga Māori programme delivery. Native Tech is in the process of registering as a Private Training Establishment via NZQA and once complete will be able to deliver NCEA accredited programmes (with a focus on levels 1-3 in microcredentials in digital and creative tech along with level 2 literacy/numeracy).

Our goal is to create industry relevant education and career pathways for rangatahi who are interested in exploring digital and creative tech. We do this to inspire them to become makers and innovators of technology, rather than simply users and consumers of it.  

Class size will be limited to 20 students (for 20 weeks x 2 intakes (16 weeks contact time) with support from a teacher, administrator, and 2 rangatahi/transition navigators, programme manager and 2 additional support staff. *All digital and creative tech support will be provided by an onsite tech tutor.

Key Tasks 

  • Support Native Tech in the development and iteration of key programmes and NCEA 1-3 microcredentials + non accredited programmes
  • Support our Academic Team to develop baseline assessments NCEA 1-3 and assist with moderation
  • Help identify and recruit young people aged 15 to 24 years who are NEET or at a high risk of becoming NEET with a focus on neurodiverse, LGBTQI+ rangatahi.
  • Work with, and support, young people to identify individual support needs, develop aspirational pathway plans and build quality relationships.
  • Provide coaching, mentoring and support for young people and help with navigating their journey to help them to achieve their tailored pathway plan (including whānau where able).
  • Support young people to develop key employability skills, additional work readiness and life skills with the support of Rangatahi and Transition navigators
  • Work within a collaborative approach within all aspects of work.
  • Help develop related programmes and deliver workshops in your key areas of expertise.
  • Act as a chaperone on a limited number of day/overnight trips.
  • Act as site supervisor.
